Editorial Policy, Sources and Changelog

Every rule and number on this site comes from official sources — IRCC pages and Ministerial Instructions on canada.ca, and celpip.ca for the test — with the date we last checked it. Practice tasks are original. A person checks AI-drafted text before it is published. Corrections are logged below, and rule changes go into the changelog when they apply.

Which sources do we use?

In this order of authority:

  1. The law: the Ministerial Instructions that set the Comprehensive Ranking System.
  2. IRCC’s pages on canada.ca: CRS criteria, the 2026 changes, the high-wage occupation list and the language-test equivalency charts.
  3. IRCC’s own CRS tool — only as a cross-check. Where it disagrees with the Ministerial Instructions, we follow the law and explain the difference.
  4. celpip.ca and the official study packs for the test format, timing and scoring.

We do not use forums, social-media posts or other prep sites as sources. Every table shows its source and a “Last verified” date.

How do we check our numbers?

  • Calculators run on a rule engine built directly from IRCC’s published point tables, kept as data — not retyped into each page.
  • Before any release, the engine must reproduce a set of worked examples — for instance 429 points for a single applicant aged 28 with a bachelor’s degree, CLB 9 in every skill and 3 years of foreign work.
  • Numbers in our text are inserted from the same data, so a page cannot quote a different figure from the calculator.
  • Where official sources are ambiguous or disagree, we say so on the page rather than guess.

How do we use AI?

  • Drafting: some explanations and practice prompts are drafted with AI assistance. A person checks every rule, number and prompt against the sources before it is published.
  • Practice material is original and family-friendly. Sample answers are labelled as original teaching examples — they have not been officially scored.
  • AI scores are always called practice estimates and shown as ranges with their evidence. See how AI scoring works.
  • Your data: we never use your recordings, transcripts or essays to train AI models.

Who reviews our pages?

A page shows “Reviewed by” only when a named person has actually reviewed it, with the date and what they checked. Until a licensed immigration consultant (RCIC) has reviewed our Express Entry pages, they say: Not yet reviewed by a licensed immigration consultant. The same applies to teacher review of our practice material.

Nothing on this site is legal or immigration advice — see the disclaimer.

How do we handle corrections?

  • Report an error: email hello@canadianenglishtest.org with the page and what looks wrong. We reply within 2 business days.
  • Fix and log: confirmed errors are fixed, the page’s “Last verified” date is updated, and the correction is listed in the log below.

Rule changelog

When an Express Entry rule changes, we update the calculators and tables on the day it applies, record the change here with its source, and update “Last verified” only on the pages that actually changed.

Express Entry rule sets used on this site
  1. Mar 25, 2025 — job-offer points removed

Points for arranged employment (job offers) were removed from the CRS; invitations issued before Mar 25, 2025 were scored under the earlier rules. On this site: the “current rules” setting of the CRS calculator and the CRS points table.

  2. Oct 16, 2026 — 2026 changes announced

IRCC announced a new Labour Market Integration factor in a news release (opens in a new tab). Until the change applies, our calculator shows both rule sets side by side.

  3. Nov 3, 2026 — Labour Market Integration factor applies

Canadian work experience plus extra points for high-wage occupations, or a high-wage job offer — whichever is higher, never both — replaces the Canadian work experience line. Up to 150 points (140 with a spouse); no LMIA needed. On this site: the Nov 3 setting of the CRS calculator, the points table, Express Entry changes 2026 and high-wage occupations.
