Until November 2, 2026, scores use the current rules; from November 3, Canadian work experience moves into a new Labour Market Integration factor worth up to 150 points (140 with a spouse). We show both totals and the exact difference.

How is your CRS score calculated?
Your Comprehensive Ranking System score adds four groups: core human capital (age, education, official languages and, until November 2, 2026, Canadian work experience), spouse factors (up to 40), skill transferability (up to 100) and additional points (up to 600, such as 600 for a provincial nomination). Each language skill converts to a CLB level on its own — never averaged.
| Factor | Single | With a spouse |
|---|---|---|
| Age | 110 | 100 |
| Education | 150 | 140 |
| First official language (4 skills) | 136 | 128 |
| Second official language | 24 | 22 |
| Canadian work experience | 80 | 70 |
| Core subtotal | 500 | 460 |
| Spouse factors | 0 | 40 |
| Skill transferability | 100 | 100 |
| Additional points | 600 | 600 |
| Total | 1200 | 1200 |
Skill transferability rewards combinations: education or foreign work together with strong language (CLB 7+ or CLB 9+ in all four skills), or with Canadian work. Each pair is capped at 50 and the whole group at 100. That is why one weak skill can cost far more than its own language points — see what one CLB level is worth.
What changes on November 3, 2026?
From November 3, 2026, the Canadian work experience row (up to 80 points single, 70 with a spouse) moves into a new Labour Market Integration factor worth up to 150 (140 with a spouse). It takes the higher of your Canadian work points plus high-wage occupation points, or points for a high-wage job offer — never both.
| Current rules (to Nov 2, 2026) | From Nov 3, 2026 | |
|---|---|---|
| Canadian work experience | Core factor, up to 80 (70) | Moves into LMI as “work-length points”, same values |
| High-wage occupation work | No points | +70 / +40 / +20 after 12 months |
| Job offer | No points since March 25, 2025 | 100 / 70 / 50 if the occupation is high-wage; no LMIA needed |
| Factor maximum | 80 (70) | 150 (140) |
| Everything else | Unchanged | Unchanged (skill transferability still uses years only) |
No “out of 1,200” for the new rules
IRCC has not restated the maximum total for the November 3 rules, so for that version we show each factor’s own maximum instead of a total out of 1,200. The full detail is on our Express Entry changes page.
High-wage points depend on your occupation’s NOC code. Not sure which one is yours? Use the NOC code finder, then compare your score with the latest Express Entry draws.
Worked examples: 429, 403, 436 and 482 → 512
Every example uses the same person: 28 years old, a foreign bachelor’s degree with an ECA, three years of skilled work abroad, CELPIP 9 in all four skills, no Canadian study. Only one thing changes per row.
| Example | Core (without Cdn work) | Cdn work / LMI | Spouse | Transferability | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Single | 354 | 0 | 0 | 75 | 429 |
| With a spouse, no spouse points | 328 | 0 | 0 | 75 | 403 |
| With a spouse: bachelor’s, CLB 9, 1 year in Canada | 328 | 0 | 33 | 75 | 436 |
| Single + 1 year Canadian work + 1.5× job offer (current) | 354 | 40 | 0 | 88 | 482 |
| Same person, from Nov 3, 2026 | 354 | 70 | 0 | 88 | 512 |
In the last two rows the job offer earns nothing today, but from November 3 the Labour Market Integration factor takes the job-offer path (70) instead of one year of Canadian work (40): +30. Skill transferability stays at 88.
Single or with a spouse: which scores higher?
If your spouse or partner comes with you and isn’t a Canadian citizen or PR, the “with a spouse” tables apply: your own points shrink and up to 40 spouse points open up. Our single example scores 429; with a spouse, 403 — or 436 if the spouse has a bachelor’s, CLB 9 and a year of Canadian work.
- Your spouse doesn’t count if they are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, or if they won’t come with you to Canada. You are then scored with the single tables and get no spouse points.
- Spouse points come from their education (up to 10), their first official language (up to 20) and their Canadian work (up to 10) — 40 in all.
- The trade-off: at age 20–29 you lose 10 age points, and at CLB 9 you lose 2 points per skill. A spouse with a strong language result usually makes up the difference.
- Couples can also compare who should be the principal applicant: run the calculator twice, swapping who is the applicant.
What is one CELPIP level worth?
For a single applicant, each first-language skill is worth 23 points at CLB 8, 31 at CLB 9 and 34 at CLB 10 — and reaching CLB 9 in all four can unlock more skill-transferability points on top. See every level, or reverse-calculate the scores you need for a target CRS.
Why your result may differ from IRCC’s tool
- Rule version. Job-offer points were removed on March 25, 2025, and the Labour Market Integration factor starts on November 3, 2026. Older calculators, and IRCC’s own tool before it is updated, may still show the earlier rules.
- TCF Canada at NCLC 4. IRCC’s calculator script gives 0 points for NCLC 4 on the TCF, while the Ministerial Instructions give 6 per skill, as for every other test. We follow the Ministerial Instructions, so results can differ by up to 24 points.
- French bonus wording. The criteria page and the Ministerial Instructions describe the English condition differently; we follow the Ministerial Instructions (all four English skills at CLB 5 or higher for the full bonus).
- Your answers. Age counts on the day of your invitation if you are invited; a foreign degree needs an ECA under 5 years old; language results must be under 2 years old.
- Your official score is always the one in your Express Entry profile.
